When I was studying in college, I was continuously the only girl in my courses and often questioned whether or not I was in the right place or if the tech arena was for me. As I grew older and worked within major corporations, I felt that I was using my skills and talents to benefit big brands but not to actually make a difference when it came to issues I cared about. After I become a mother, I became heavily invested in learning about issues in my community- especially pertaining to equity and gender inequalities.

Eventually I got tired of being the "complainer" and decided it was time to become part of the solution in creating a better world for my child. It was at this time that I decided to leave the corporate world and join the Code/Art team- working to reach more girls in underrepresented communities to educate them and offer more opportunities that they may have not otherwise been introduced to.

Being that we're located in Miami, I feel that we're in a great location to reach Hispanic and Black communities and begin to tilt the scale. Currently, Black women hold just 3% of computing jobs and Latina women hold just 1%. Our mission is to provide early intro to coding programs so that girls can eventually have access to higher-paying and fulfilling jobs and also realize that this field and job roles are, in fact, for them.

The gift of giving! Help provide a Creative Coding (40 hours) scholarship for one girl! Code/Art's mission is to inspire girls to code through an art-infused curriculum that allows girls to be creative and express themselves while learning fundamental programming languages.
