"My Story
For better opportunities, my parent moved to USA from Haiti. My dad worked as a cab driver in NY for 20 years and my mom worked in several warehouses in NJ. They taught me many life lessons to succeed in life including the importance of hardwork, work smart and pursue the life of my dreams.
When I was 16 years old, I received the worst news of my life… After completed my driver's permit test, I was given the vision test. Unfortunately, I failed it and was instructed see an eye doctor.
After many different vision tests, the doctor informed me that I will never be able to drive because I do not meet the required visual acuity for driving.
When I asked why not, he said “you are legally blind. You only have 10% vision remaining. The normal visual acuity is 20/20; and you have 20/200.
He went on to say that I have been legally blind since birth - from Best Disease and macular degeneration. I simply didn’t realize it… I’d been living in a blurry world, and thought that everyone sees the world with similar “lenses”.
You can only imagine the thoughts and feeling I had at that time…
I was shocked and felt lost… I was devastated and disappointed… I was mad and depressed… I spent the next couple of years going through the grieving process.
With the help of my family, my friends and my faith, I accepted my really of my vision disability. I remembered the life lessons my parent taught me to define my VISION and pursue the life of my dreams no matter what.
Instead of staying in my grief for ever and feeling sorry for myself, I decided to challenge myself and pursue my goals to become the first family member with a college degree and pursue the life of my dreams. As a result, I believe that a clear VISION is a must to succeed in life and in business. "
