My parents and 4th-grade teacher both inspired my interest in nature. This was significant to establish the initial direction that I moved toward regarding my career path.
Fortunately, I was able to work in -field- in some very interesting jobs- as I was going to college which helped me to clarify my vision for the future, which was teaching at that time.
I began my first full-time position as a teacher of biology and environmental science.
After that, I was able to “spread my wings” by moving from Connecticut to a new place to begin my second teaching job in Miami, Florida. My teaching also inspired me to do a considerable amount of traveling mostly to the Caribbean and South America between 1982-2000. This was not only an eye opener as a teacher but as a person. For me, I was able to expand my knowledge and teaching resources by this experience and then add a new dimension of learning about cultures other than my own.
After my teaching career, I decided to become a consultant in environmental education and non-profit development. That gave me the opportunity to still do what I love and that was to share those experiences of nature- and then culture- with others. While in this role, I was approached by a non-profit for environmental education in the Haitian Community here in South Florida as well as in Haiti. She asked me to work with her grant research and writing, primarily.
This experience had grown into my being very involved in the Haitian Community.
That said, I authored the first book telling the history of Little Haiti, Miami, and pioneered a cultural tourism program for not just little Haiti but all of the Historic neighborhoods of Miami. I also began to do Eco-tours to the Everglades and “Urban Parks of Greater Miami”.
The next big project began in 2008 and was born from the cultural side- a multicultural family festival in Downtown Miami on the Riverwalk. I had produced 11 consecutive Riverwalk, 10 Arts events, and 6 " Earth Day " events.
The pandemic halted my ability to do business, but I came into my office to, plan and strategize every single day. Due to the vast contacts, I have in various disciplines and at various levels, I realized that I can do more types of work and now wish to begin a podcast.
Further, I desire to do more consulting work, more special events and less tours. I also realized that via my websites, (up and running since 2003) and non-paid social media post, that I have been preaching to the same choir.
This course has already given me the additional motivation necessary in order to venture into new territory as well as to have a sharpened focus to things in business that really matter, especially accounting and marketing.
